Watch Veronica discuss her experience with the AspireAssist.
We sat down with Veronica for a candid Q&A about her weight loss journey with the AspireAssist. Here’s what she had to say:
How long had you been overweight?
I wasn’t overweight when I was young. I became overweight when I was pregnant with my son—I was 21 at the time. It became a problem with everything—I struggled putting shoes on and clothes were tight. I was really uncomfortable, I couldn’t wear anything that showed any part of my body, so I was starting to wear really big clothes to try to hide my body. It was really hard for me because it was in the summer, and I didn’t want to have less clothes. So, it was really warm, and I was very big, and I just sat there sweating and feeling miserable.
Did you ever try to lose weight?
Since my son was born, I’ve constantly been on diets but always failed. I’d succeed for a while by being really hard on myself, excluding many things in my life—food, of course, and sometimes I would stay home when my friends went out because I knew it would be too hard to say no to all the food that would be served. After I succeeded, I’d feel great and like I was on top of the world! I’d lose 22 pounds – the most I’d ever lost was 44 pounds for my wedding- which is more than I am now. But then after the wedding it was like, whew! I fell back in my old habits again and I gained the 44 pounds in just 3 or 4 months. So I was back at square zero.
Had you considered weight loss surgery?
I had thought about gastric bypass, but I was too afraid to do that. It was too big of an operation for me and I have heard of many people who had problems. You don’t know beforehand if you’re one of those people who’s going to have the problems.
What did you think when you heard about the AspireAssist procedure?
I was hesitant at first, but I ended up going to one of the informational meetings. We got a lot of information and they explained it more in depth so I could understand it better. I felt really motivated so signed my name on the list! I thought, if I’m going to die fat, I can try this first. So I went for it and I have never regretted it.
What kind of lifestyle changes did you have to make?
I had to get used to flushing. The first 4 or 5 times, I was nervous before I went to the toilet. But after I had done if for about a week, it was really no problem at all. I also eat less now. I never eat more than one plate of food. And I’m still losing weight, so I’m constantly focusing more on chewing carefully and flushing than what I am eating. And because I’ve lost all this weight, I’m motivated to keep going and make bigger changes in what I’m eating.
Tell us about your weight loss journey.
Once I got acclimated to the flushing with Aspire, the weight loss came immediately. I lost 55 pounds in 6 months, and it was more than I had ever lost before. And it didn’t stop there! It’s been over a year and I’ve lost 83 pounds! Some days I pass a mirror and have to stop and think, who is that? Oh, it’s me! I’m so happy I took a chance and went with the Aspire method.
Would you recommend this method to others?
I would absolutely recommend this method because if I can do it, anyone can do it. This is the only thing that has worked for me. I feel so natural because I can eat what I want, and I can choose not to eat what I want. I’d recommend this method because it’s up to you how much you lose. You choose how many times to flush—your weight loss is up to you. It was in my hands, and I liked that.
